The mask is the coolest part about the mesmer. They're fine the way they are. Just hope for future additions to the look.

Well, the mask is only really visible when you are in an instanced zone, and you won't really have any reason to look at the front of your character while you're in battle.
If that makes you feel any better.

If you noticed in the dialogues from NPCs mesmers are like the "fab dudes," so to speak, who worry about how they look more than anything else. Maybe there'll be some appearance changes on release even, I dunno. The mask is kinda the theme of them though in artwork and stuff. Their illusion magic too if i remember. Interesting if they change em somehow.

Haha!

I think the mesmer is one of the coolest looking classes. In any case, each class has their own unique look, so I suppose you'll just have to get used to it.

So, if they...uh, sounded like a person? Radical thought, that.
I love the Mesmer, personally, and I love the mask. I think the Renaissance look is unusual and striking. Really breaks the mold from your standard "I'm a caster in robes" look. My old D&D/EQ Enchanter/future Mesmer character is named from a character from the commedia dell'arte,* and I've never seen a character model that fits her better.
Starflower
*It's "Columbine," and if you see me in-game, I beg you not to tell me it's a morbid/grotesque name, that always breaks my heart. I'd been using it from 15 years before the Littleton massacre...

Ok, well I guess they'll stay as they are.
I'v only seen them in green and purple and such, all black might be pretty sweet.... In any case I'll live.

The mesmer does have a homosexual look to him, now that you mention it...
Also, he does seem to have a halloween costume look. Impossible to say...
Well if he is gay, then Areanet was probably showing their support for gay rights. Good Job ANET for loving everyone!

Shows different tastes, doesn't it? I rather like the mesmer look myself, except for that dreadful starting shirt. *shudders*. Couldn't get rid of that fast enough. Thank goodness for those collectors after Ice Lodestones near Foible's Fair.
I do agree about the mask; the domination (imposing) mask that is. Ugly, ugly thing , which is, of course, the point.
The long casting animation for the Mesmer (that little flying twirl and point thing) is really snazzy. I like it a lot. This was actually the reason I chose a Me/N over an N/Me. However, I'm going to give the N/Me a go come preview because I'm not entirely shallow.
As for the pretty-boy/girl look, going by Lady Althea, they seem to be actors and you know what they're like (typically).

I love the way my Me/Mo looks! His snazzy dress was part of the reason I picked him. And when I saw the twirl-and-point casting animation my response was an emphatic, "OMG this character rules!"
I also agree with Starflower up there about the fresh originality of the Mesmer's "Renaissance" look ... seeing my character's model inspired me to name him Ouranio Seraphimos, rather than several similiar variants I was considering, just because it sounded flamboyant, operatic, and vaguely Italian ... And the other character models are equally unique; I think a round of applause is in order for the game devs for thinking outside the RPG box.
That said, of course you can't please everyone. My wife is kinda cheesed because her elementalist looks like a cocktail waitress. But she basically just laughs it off and looks forward to getting some decent gear that actually covers her chest.
There's always dye, and you could go with a black-and-grey motif (or somerthing equally subdued) for your mesmer if flair isn't your thing. Fortunately for you the mask doesn't show up in town ... and neither do that sexually ambiguous glowing cane and tambourine-looking chakram! ... so if your mesmer is gay it'll be your own secret.

A mate of mine played as a mesmer, when he dyed the mask with silver dye it turned transparent, it was there but you couldn't see it.

I think the mesmer chicks look alright. The guys look ... off. I think they should be more Magician/Wizzardish rather than Thesbian. I wanna play a mesmer as one of my builds, but I dont want him to look like a dork. :P

Because every homosexual talks the same way, right? How do you know that the voices they have already aren't that of homosexuals? :P Might wanna narrow your generalizations down a bit.

lol, then again (and this is with 5 years theatre experience under my belt), the stereotype does hold true.
i don't know a single actor or actress who doesn't fuss over their appearance (and this applies to them in the real world and not just on stage). point being... you don't get a lot of ugly people in the theatre (at least where I work). some of the stage hands I've worked with in the past can be a bit grotesque, but of course they aren't on stage, lol.

I completely agree. Although, I have met a couple cute "Techies." Always fun to have something to do backstage...

Quoted for truth. I do miss hanging in the wings talking it up to some cute girl running the fly rails or waiting around for a scene change.
